Peter Steadman became an orthopaedic surgeon in 1996. He trained in Brisbane and at the Mayo clinic on Queensland Cancer study research fellowship. Following a period between 1997 and 2001 as Director of Orthopaedics, Princess Alexandria Hospital, he continued as a visiting specialist in adult orthopaedic oncology services.
In 2004, he started providing paediatric cancer services across Queensland and is currently appointed to the Lady Cilento Hospital for Children in Brisbane.
He has been long term secretary of the Australian Sarcoma Group, recently becoming a board member in the new Australia New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA) while continuing as the orthopaedic subspecialty group Chairman.
He is a Clinical Associate Professor in orthopaedic surgery at University of Queensland and current PHD supervisor in the human movements department in oncology musculoskeletal functional research. He is the supervisor of the Queensland orthopaedic oncology fellowship.
He has been the AOA state chairman in Queensland and federal board member of the AOA from 2008 to 2013, and became federal treasurer of the AOA in 2013.
He is currently chairman of the Queensland Orthopaedic Research Institute providing charitable support to research services to the orthopaedic community in Queensland
He has previously taught at the Enneking Pathology Course at its home at University of Florida in Gainesville Fl. The course is a mandatory course for all USA Orthopaedic Residents ( registrars ) in the USA and attracts visiting lecturers twice a year from all around the world.
